Staff profile: Alanna Robertson

As Executive Assistant, I’m responsible for the smooth running of the office of MEFL’s CEO, and providing high level governance and administrative support to the Board of Directors and the Executive Leadership Team.

Before starting at MEFL I was in the hospitality industry for ten years and have worked my way into management roles, most recently as Assistant Venue Manager of Howler (across from the Brunswick Baths). You can still see me rock starring out there on some weekends.

I am a recent graduate of the Master of Environment at the University of Melbourne. The core of my degree focused on understanding the key concepts of environmental sustainability, global environmental challenges and the process of policy design and evaluation. I have a Bachelor of Arts with majors in Geography and Social Theory up my sleeve too!

Apart from work and study, I am a big fan of yoga and swimming at the Brunswick Baths, cycling around Brunswick and walking my dog Ichigo. I am a huge live music and beer fan and can often be found down at the local watering hole. I also enjoy photography using film cameras that I find at second-hand stores.

The thing I love most about Moreland is…

Green options are everywhere, easy to find and affordable. You can shop at many bulk food stores, wholefood fruit and veg, vegan and sustainability-focused eateries. It is so fantastic to be able to avoid plastic, reduce food miles and to support good green industries without having to search too far. I also enjoy the variety of live music venues and café street culture Moreland has to offer. The bike path and cycling parks are also rad!

The craziest thing I’ve ever done in the name of sustainability is…

I have picked way too many things out of bins that are still good! Can I sign off as ‘Bin Rat’?
