These are our circumstances: We work from home (all day energy consumption), have a variety of international houseguests (with widely different notions of conservation and waste), use gas for all our heating needs (no electric hot water) and due to an active and playful imagination coupled with a general absent-mindedness spend very little time actively conserving energy / water. A simple and practical mindfulness - plus some minor 'adjustments' - is all that has served us so far.

Our average daily electricity consumption - over a span of seven years - has come full circle to around 5.5 kWh per day.

Quarterly measurements of kWh per day as stated on our utility bills since 2005.

4.73 inexpensive $7 LED GU10 lights [125 lumens ] purchased from IKEA (these only deliver good quality light over short distances so if you have your lights mounted high don't bother with these. If the distance that needs to be serviced is less than 1.5 metres, however, then these are excellent, with good colour rendition to boost.)

I hope these observations help other readers work out what their 'average' should be.

Oh, yes, I almost forgot, and we don't watch television. Ever.
