MEFL research projects

MEFL undertakes detailed research across the broad areas of interest to the organisation. Our research program is the source of MEFL’s vision for sustainable communities, municipalities and cities, and provides evidence for the delivery of advocacy to ensure these are achieved.

MEFL research builds on our reputation as a trusted source of information on sustainable building design, decentralised energy and urban development. We have recently competed a range of projects, including detailed research in conjunction with State and Federal Governments.

  • The On-ground assessment of the energy efficiency potential of Victorian homes pilot study, in conjunction with Sustainability Victoria, providing a cost benefit comparison of a range of energy efficiency upgrades to homes.
  • The Take Action on Electric Hot Water and Air-Conditioning study, with funding from the Victorian Government’s Sustainability Fund, to trial innovative approaches that could reduce electricity use and greenhouse gas emissions from air conditioners and hot water units, and explore opportunities for and barriers against such environmental action.
  • The Residential Energy Monitoring Project, with the Federal Department of Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts, to examine household electrical appliance energy, mains gas and hot water use in detail across a variety of residential households.
  • MEFL has also undertaken some significant sustainability research projects in a consultancy role. See our Consulting page for details.
