Moreland Solar City

Moreland is just one of seven cities included in the Australian Government's Solar Cities initiative. Other cities/regions included are: Adelaide, Alice Springs, Blacktown, Central Victoria, Perth and Townsville.

Inclusion in this program means Moreland will receive funding to integrate a range of energy efficiency measures into local homes and businesses. This will include a combination of solar technologies, as well as community education about energy usage.

The project aims to engage with all levels of the Moreland community to bring about community-based sustainable energy solutions. There will also be a specific focus on assisting low income households to improve energy efficiency and reduce costs.

Vision for Moreland

The Moreland community is joining international efforts to reduce our impact on our climate. Moreland is building the foundations to reduce greenhouse pollution to zero net by 2030. Changing the way we use energy is a critical part of this plan.

Aiming for a sustainable community, Moreland Solar City will:

  • Find practical ways to improve the energy efficiency of our homes and businesses
  • Assist those less able to change
  • Produce the energy we need sustainably
  • Create new places to live and work that tread lightly on our planet.
