Rebates and incentives
Rebates are a way for the government to encourage people to invest in certain products and services.
There are currently a lot of rebates and incentives available for energy efficiency and renewable energy, such as solar panels. If you are considering renovating your home, replacing existing services, or would like to reduce your environmental impact - it has never been a better time.
Take a look at our fact sheet on Environmental Rebates, or check out the Living Greener website for more information.

Jessica explains the goverment rebates available when you install solar panels.
What are environmental rebates?
Environmental rebates are government schemes that provide financial assistance to help you invest in energy or water saving products and services. Rebates may be a point-of-sale discount, a reimbursement or a loan. The rebates only apply to selected products and services, and need to meet eligibility and time-frame requirements.
This summary will give a brief outline of the current rebates available to households. For more comprehensive information we recommend viewing our fact sheet or following the provided links.
A feed-in tariff is an amount of money paid for electricity fed into the electricity network, or ‘grid’, typically from a renewable energy generator such as rooftop solar panels. Victoria has a Standard and a Premium feed-in tariff.
In late 2009 the long-awaited Victorian premium feed-in tariff for solar came into effect. Under the scheme, Victorian homes with solar photovoltaic electricity (PV) systems up to 5kW in capacity will be paid a minimum of 60c/kWh for any additional electricity they feed back into the grid after in-home consumption. Victorian electricity retailers with a more than 5000 customers are legally obliged to provide a premium feed-in tariff to eligible customers.
Moreland Energy Foundation (MEFL), in conjunction with the Alternative Technology Association, conducted a brief assessment of available premium feed-in tariff offers, to determine the best offers available to consumers. We sent a survey to all electricity retailers as well as conducting a review of information listed on retailers’ websites.
The comparison covers the majority of the 14 electricity retailers operating in Victoria at the time.
The details of the offers are likely to change as energy retailers become more competitive, and as consumers continue to explore the options available to them, therefore creating a greater demand.
The comparison acts as a useful guide, but we suggest you check with your preferred retailer for their latest offers and terms and conditions.
