Schools take on the Lowering Emissions project:

Broadmeadows Secondary College has already had the MEFL team in to look at ways the school might reduce its energy use.

Last year the school saved more than $10,000 on energy bills by switching to an efficient gas heating system, a fantastic effort initiated by the principal.

The team suggested changing the school fluorescent lights to more energy-efficient triphosphors that will save the school even more in running costs each year.

Case Study: Thinking about energy?

Cap: Year 8 students at King Khalid Islamic College have been thinking about energy as part of the Lowering Emissions Growing Community project. The Energy Team has been given the task of finding ways for the school community to save energy, starting with lighting. Jane at MEFL has completed an audit of the school and uncovered some easy savings, in particular a complete shut-down of all appliances over school holiday periods.
