Environmental one stop shop at the Glenroy Festival

Moreland residents can make a real difference to climate change at the Glenroy festival on Sunday 20 April.
While attending the festival people can sign up to Community Power, swap to a water efficient showerhead and purchase energy saving light globes all at the one time.
Signing up to GreenPower, swapping over your showerhead and installing energy efficient lighting are three simple things everyone can do to make a difference to climate change. Moreland Energy Foundation CEO Paul Murfitt said.
Many people have plans to make these sorts of changes to their homes, but with our busy lives it can be hard to find the time. By visiting the Moreland Energy Foundation stall at the festival, local residents can do all three things at once.
The average home produces around twelve tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions a year. On average 20% of these emissions come from hot water use and 9% from lighting. Changing your globes and showerhead, switching off lights and taking shorter showers are all easy ways to immediately reduce your energy use.
"In addition, buying GreenPower is one of the simplest and most effective action households and businesses can take to reduce their greenhouse emissions. GreenPower is Government accredited electricity generated from new renewable energy sources such as wind and solar unlike standard energy produced from fossil fuels like coal, oil and gas.
Community Power, a local initiative of Darebin City Council and the Moreland Energy Foundation, aim is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and encourage local households and businesses to take action on climate change by switching to Origin GreenPower products endorsed by Community Power.
"We're excited about our new partnership with Origin Energy. Community Power went through a competitive process open to all electricity retailers in Victoria and Origin's proposal and products were the best, so we are promoting these to our residents, he said.
Mr Murfitt said he hoped many people at the Glenroy Festival would take action on the spot to register their interest in GreenPower. Origin will then call these people through the week so they can sign up over the phone
The showerhead exchange is part of a Yarra Valley Water initiative and is available to Yarra Valley Water customers. To receive a new showerhead, (up to two per household), simply bring your old showerhead(s) (with the arm) as well as a copy of your Yarra Valley Water bill to the Moreland Energy Foundation stall.
