March 10, 2006
Moreland Energy Foundation says a recent State Government report has announced that Brunswick and Coburg are in Victorias top twenty suburbs signing up to Green Power.
Mr Jim Downey, Moreland Energy Foundation Ltd (MEFL) CEO congratulated residents who have made the switch to Green Power, which is generated from renewable energy from the sun, wind, hydro and waste.
"This is a fantastic result and shows that Brunswick and Coburg residents are amongst the most environmentally aware in the state."
"Over 78,700 Victorian households have already made the switch to Green Power and are collectively cutting greenhouse pollution by 117,000 tonnes each year - the equivalent of removing 27,042 cars from Victoria's roads."
Switching to Green Power has been made even easier and cheaper for Moreland residents through Community Power, a local initiative established by the Cities of Darebin, Melbourne, Yarra, Banyule and the Moreland Energy Foundation.
"There is a very attractive 100% Green Power option, where AGL will pay half the Green Power premium for the customer, meaning Community Power is the most affordable Green Power around."
Local Moreland resident Bruce Thompson who recently made the switch to Community Power said "Switching to Green Power was easy with Community Power. It's good to know that I'm saving greenhouse gas emissions and doing something for the environment."
"Along with reducing your consumption of electricity, switching to Community Power is perhaps the easiest and simplest thing that you can do RIGHT NOW to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and make a real contribution to the environment." Mr Jim Downey said.
"Lets get the whole of Moreland switching to Community Green Power" said Mr Downey.
