Coburg has been successfully short listed as a potential Solar City by the Federal Government. The Coburg Solar Village aims to dramatically increase solar energy use and assist households and business in the area become more energy efficient.
The project has been developed by the Moreland Energy Foundation in partnership with the Moreland City Council.
Moreland has been a leader in promoting sustainability initiatives, the Coburg Solar Village project will take us a big step further. said Moreland Mayor Cr Mark Higginbotham
The project will bring together a range of organisations to assist over 1000 households and 75 businesses install solar photovoltaic cells and energy efficiency measures. The project will further work with new residential developments, supermarkets and industry to implement leading edge technology. Several public facilities including schools and community buildings will showcase technologies and provide information hubs for education and involvement.
MCC and MEFL have brought together a range of stakeholders including AGL, Origin, Coles Myer to work in partnership to develop and implement the program over 3 years. The overall project will amount to $8 Million with the Federal Government contributing half.
