April 24, 2008

The Moreland Energy Foundation is working in partnership with the Muslim Unity Coordination Committee to deliver a showerhead exchange program.

A showerhead exchange will be held as part of the Muslim Unity Coordination Committee Free BBQ day at Edwardes Lake, Reservoir on Sunday May 11th 2008.

“We are delighted to be a part of this event and congratulate the organisers for their efforts to save water and energy in the community.” Moreland Energy Foundation CEO Paul Murfitt said.

Previous showerhead exchanges conducted by Moreland Energy Foundation have resulted in savings of over 1 million litres of water per year and over 60 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions. Yarra Valley Water supplies the showerheads free of charge as part of the drive to reduce water usage in Melbourne. The exchange is available to all Yarra Valley Water customers.

Heating water can account for 30% of household energy use which makes swapping a showerhead a simple method to save water and reduce greenhouse gas pollution. Swapping a showerhead saves; water, money and energy.

The event is forecasted to attract over 2000 people as part of the launch of a host of environmental initiatives within the Islamic Community

The day will also feature, sporting event, lectures and activities for people of all ages.
