Free Showerhead Exchange
December 03, 2007
Save water and energy by swapping your old showerhead for a new water efficient one this weekend at Glenroy Library.
Due to the great success of the Coburg Library Showerhead Exchange, another one will be held at Glenroy Library on Saturday 8th December.
"The response of local Moreland residents at the last Showerhead Swap was outstanding" Sustainability Street Regional mentor Jason Cox said. "We had people lining up before the library was even open and averaged one showerhead swap every one and a half a minutes."
On average 30% of all household water usage occurs in the bathroom. Old style showerheads can use up to 19 litres of water a minute, compared to water efficient ones, which use under 9 litres a minute. A family of three can save 25,000 litres of water per year simply by installing a water efficient showerhead.
Installing a water efficient showerhead also reduces the amount of energy needed to heat water and it is estimated the last exchange will save over 60 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions a year.
The showerhead exchange is part of a Yarra Valley Water initiative and is available to Yarra Valley Water customers. The day is being organised by the Moreland Energy Foundation, Sustainability Street and Moreland City Council Libraries.
To receive a new showerhead, (up to two per household), simply bring your old showerhead(s) (with the arm) as well as a copy of your Yarra Valley Water bill to Glenroy Library - Cnr Louisa and Victoria St between 10am and -12pm on Saturday 8th December.
