Carol Summers: saving with Concession Assist

ZCM_CA_Carol_case_study1Carol, a mother of two, rents a house in Pascoe Vale South and has recently returned to part-time work to support her young family. Through Concession Assist, Carol received a free home energy check-up, which saw her home draught proofed, light globes and shower head replaced and a ‘future switch’ installed (a central switch that turns off selected appliances around the house, reducing energy wastage from stand-by power).

With the support of Zero Carbon Moreland, Carol also began making simple behavioural changes around her home – turning off the second fridge, reducing air conditioner usage and washing the family’s clothes in cold water. One year on, Carol has saved $245 on her energy bills and reduced their household green house gas emissions by 8.4 tonnes (the equivalent to taking 2 cars off the road).

ZCM_CA1“The program has made a noticeable difference to our energy bills – without the home energy retrofit and the support of Zero Carbon Moreland I wouldn’t have been able to save so much.”

With ZCM’s support, Carol hopes to reduce her family’s energy costs even further and has begun saving to replace her washing machine with an energy efficient model.

If you’re a Concession Card holder living in Moreland you too are eligible for a free home energy check-up with Concession Assist. Register online or by calling us on 9385 8585.
