Mothers & Babies

Bringing a new baby home is an exciting experience and one that changes parent's perspective on life. Not only do they have a gorgeous new baby to get to know, with all the challenges that involves, they may find themselves looking at their home and lifestyle in a completely different way. At the Moreland Energy Foundation (MEFL) we have helped a number of local families who have been shocked to see their energy bills leap following the birth of their child. We offer a whole range of services to help, usually for free, which are touched on in the kit below.
Throughout the year MEFL visits New Mothers and Babies Groups to talk about saving money through saving energy. We visit Maternal and Child Health Centres in Brunswick East, Brunswick North-East, Moreland, Pascoe Vale South-West, Brunswick, Coburg, Pascoe Vale, Pascoe Vale South-West, Merlynston, Glenroy and Fawkner. For mothers with new babies reducing greenhouse gases for a healthier environment takes on a whole new meaning.

Inspired Mum leads the way
Hannah Mandurano, mother of four-month-old Mia, was at a new parents group visited by MEFL. Packed with practical tips for making both the home and baby more comfortable, the talk inspired Hannah to start making changes.
"Kerry talked about what is happening to the environment because of all the energy we are using and how this will affect the lives of our children. I had heard about climate change at school but it didn't seem important at the time. Now I have a home and baby Mia, I can see how important saving energy is for the future"
Since the talk Hannah has made some energy-smart changes in her home and talked to friends and family; "Some of them think I've gone a bit weird but usually they're O.K. and they listen to what I have to say. I think that everyone should know about this, not just new mothers."
